Musa ‘FHIA-18’

Fruit Banana, Dessert and Cooking Banana

One more than 10 feet tall new breeding from Honduras, which belongs to the group AAAB and to the section Musa, is one Manzano type. The fruits have an applelike taste, can be eaten in-natura or cooked. This cultivar is disease resistant, off all against Black Sigatoka, is also wind and cold tolerant, but not hardy in Germany and Europe, but it needs to be crosses with Musa basjoo or sikkimensis. It is one cross between Musa 'Prata Enane' (AAB) and Musa 'SH-3142' (AA).

By the lack of the hardiness it can be grown in Germany and Europe only as pot plant and wintergarden plant with frostfree hibernation.

Since 16th September 2009 I have this cultivar in my yard, best thanks to Helton Josué and his wife.
