Musa ‘Maçã’

Fruit Banana, Dessert Banana, Brazilian Apple Banana

One more than 10 to 15 feet tall Brazilian cultivar of the section Musa, it is triploid and belows probably to the group AAB, forms fingerlong fruits with applelike taste. It is grown of all in the state São Paulo and other regions of Southern Brazil, has never gotten one export importance, although the prominent taste of the fruits might have a great  export chance.

Unfortunately this cultivar is disease suspectiple, of all by Black Sigatoka. Therefore it is replaced more and more by new disease resistent cultivars like Musa ‚Mysore’ ersetzt, which I do have also  in my yard in Lucianópolis.

It is not introducted to Europe and Germany yet. The culture might be like the of the closely related cultivar Musa ‚Dwarf Brazilian’ syn. 'Prata', also the hibernation because of its cold tolerance, the hibernation is still not tested in Europe and Germany.

Since 16th September 2009 I have this cultivar in my yard. Best thanks to Helton Josué and his wife.
