Musa ‘Pratinha’ (syn. 'Dwarf Brazilian')

Fruit Banana, Dessert Banana

Very similar to the larger cultivar Musa ‚Prata’ , this dessert banana does reach only the half or third of the usual cultivar, reachs only up to 6 to 8 feet (2.00 to 2.40 m) and is very suitable in the climate with cold winters as pot plant, winter garden plant and for warm greenhouses because of this, can also kept outplanted over the summer and dug up in the fall, potted in and overwinter in the house. It should be cold tolerant, one outdoor overwintering with thermostat controlled heated winter protection could be possible like Musa ‚Orinoco’, ‚Rajapuri’ and ‚Ice Cream’, without heat it might not survive.

The sweet bananas are also smaller than the of Musa ‚Prata’ and it should be cultivated more frequently because of the good wind resistance and very tasty fruits. The culitvar is triploid and belongs to the group AAB and the section Eumusa.

Since 16th September 2009 I have this cultivar in my garden, best thanks to Helton Josué and his wife.
