Super Banana from Embrapa, cultivar name not known anymore

Dessert Banana, Fruit Banana

One huge plant of the group AAAB, it is tetraploid and was bred and selected by Embrapa in Brazil, it is similar to Musa 'Prata', but disease resistant and managed amazingly with the sandy soil by good care and fertilization at one suitable place. It belongs to the largest of our largest banana trees, has huge leaves. It came as one small by tissue culture propagated plant to us in 2009 and Antonio kept and grew it, it was the only survived plant of the shipment from Embrapa in 2009. Today I would to prefer plant by tissue culture propagated plants at first into red clay and later transplant into Terra Preta. One new shipment was much more successfully in the red clay soil and at first shaded by palm leaves, but the frost from June 26th 2011 killed one part of the plants, the survived plants are Musa 'Jaipira', Musa 'Preciosa' and Musa 'Garantida' and grew up to huge plants today because of my better experiences of the past years.

Surprisely this new cultivar has proen as really good cold tolerant, but also not as hardy Musa basjoo. One small first yield self survived during the whole first yield from Musa 'Nanição' was destroyed. Absolutely this new cultivar is much hardier.ernichtet wurde.

One new harvest in December 2012 was much more yielding, there were 2 fruit brunches forming, the fruits tasted much better than the of the first harvest.

The disease resistant super bnaana from Embrapa on July 29th, 2011, despite of the frost one small first yield. All of the

other banana harvests in our garden were frozen and destroyed.

I harvested the fruits and took them to Germany where they did after-ripe.

Here the after-ripen fruits which are waiting to be eaten. Their taste remembered of Musa 'Prata'.

The super banana recovered very quickly and became the largest banana

plant in our garden, here the update of December 10th, 2011.

The huge leaves of the super banana from Embrapa on December 10th, 2011.
