Musa thomsonii

Bhutan Banana, Himalaya Banana

One very new banana of the section Musa from Northeastern India and Bhutan, grows 3.60 to 4.50 metres tall. After first trials in Germany it has not proven as hardy alth. The bracts of the flowers are very ornamental and intensive red. The fruits are sweet and edible, but seed containing. This species was introducted by Tobias Spanner in the last years.

In Angatuba in Brazil in the nursery of Colecionando Frutas the species thrives very well and does fruit regularly with viable seeds.
